Not since Les Paul built his first solid body electric guitar in 1941 has there been a breakthrough in the natural sustain and sound of a fretted instrument. Paul’s inspiration was simple: “What I wanted to do is not have two things vibrating. I wanted the string to vibrate and nothing else. I wanted the guitar to sustain longer than an acoustical box and have different sounds than an acoustical box.” Since the body of the guitar was solid, it allowed the sound from a plucked string to sustain, not dissipate its energy through a reverberant acoustic chamber.

Crystal Frets takes this idea one step further. By replacing standard metal frets with natural quartz crystal, even less of the string vibration is dissipated. Harder than steel, the natural properties of the quartz allows the string energy to be amplified throughout the body, resulting in a warm, resonant tone and increased sustain.
